Mystery Deaths Shake Sonoma’s Mountain Lion Population

Five mountain lions being tracked by the Living with Lions Project in Sonoma County have died under mysterious circumstances — a devastating setback for researchers and wildlife advocates.

Scientists from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are now investigating what caused the sudden losses. These lions were vital to understanding how big cats survive in the fragmented landscapes of Northern California — and their deaths raise urgent questions about toxins, disease, and the pressures facing predators living so close to humans.

Each loss is more than a data point — it’s the silencing of a powerful voice in the wild.

Noted in the Face Book announcement on this are the anti puma morons. As with anti wolf people (they are all disturbed) it's all "Good. Now the deer population can increase" which makes no ecological/environmental sense. Then again, they probably want more deer to shoot for fun.
