Why the new blog header?
The simple answer is that, although I started looking at foxes in 1974, from 1976 onward I was embroiled in researching various "mystery animal" reports. Over 40 plus years I compiled huge files and went to original sources and...the "mystery animals" were identified. These included jackals, wolves and coyotes that were released into the British countryside during (at least) the early 19th century for 'sport'. All of this is outlined in The Red Paper Canids.
More recently there have been repeated sightings of various exotics including Lynx, pumas and suspected wolves -=the claim (still ongoing) that England has packs of coyotes wandering around had to be investigated and facts presented. In case you are wondering: no, there are no coyote packs in England. Illegal breeding and selling of exotics have included wolves and in my aforementioned book I looked at the number of wolf-dog hybrids still on the loose in Scotland.
In other words, the work of both the Exotic Animals Register (EAR) and the British Fox and Wild Canids Study often cross over.
The three canids caught in Preston, Lancashire is one such case and a report will be posted soon.
I hope that makes things clear.
